Hydroscand Design and Test Center (HDTC)

All of our hoses and pipe components are thoroughly tested in our modern test laboratory in Stockholm. This is so that you as a customer can feel confident when you buy a product from Hydroscand.

In Hydroscand's test laboratory, we have combined 50 years of industry experience with advanced testing equipment. Before a new product reaches the market, it must pass a series of tough product tests to ensure that it meets Hydroscand's high quality standards.

Product development and construction

At Hydroscand we have a fast production chain where we work closely with our customers and suppliers. This means that our products reach the market quickly.

We always strive to optimize the connection between hoses and fittings. Therefore, the engineering team at HDTC continuously develops and designs products in the 3D CAD system SolidWorks.

Hose testing

Flex/impulse and impuls,  life cycle testing

These tests are conducted in one of HDTC's large rigs where up to twelve hoses can be tested simultaneously. These tests simulate an accelerated lifespan of a hose assembly. We conduct tests in accordance with ISO 6803 (impulse test) and ISO 8032 (flex/impulse test) or according to the customer's unique requirements.

A standard test includes between 150,000 and 1,000,000 impulse cycles under  pressure up
to 730 bar and an oil temperature up to 150°C. The testing procedure is the toughest possible,
all to ensure that the assembly can withstand much more than just normal operation.

Pressure testing

Certain hose and pipe assemblies that require certification are pressure tested to a maximum of twice the working pressure for a maximum of 60 seconds before release to the customer. This is a smart testing method, as it does not affect the lifespan, and even the smallest fault or deficiency is immediately detected. The same equipment is also used to validate the specified burst pressure for hoses. 

Leakage and burst testing 

A leakage and burst test is conducted to ensure that the connection on a hose with mounted coupling and ferrule remains leak-proof and that the connection stays intact up to at least the specified burst pressure. The testing equipment can also be used to measure any expansion of the hose under pressure.

Hydroscand can perform tests up to 4000 bar and follows the EN ISO 1402 standard.

Corrosion testing

Vårt krav är idag 500 h till basmetallkorrosion men vi testar alltid upp till 750 h då det är vårt mål.Corrosion can result in irreversible damage to materials, pipeline components, equipment, machinery and pipelines. Such damages are not only expensive to repair but can also lead to production halts, health and safety risks, and a damaged brand reputation.

Hydroscand Design and Test Center, HDTC, has a climate chamber where we ensure that corrosion protection meets our quality standards and customer expectations. The test is as rigorous for the hose fittings as the impulse test is for the hose itself.

HDTC conducts tests in accordance with ISO 9227: NSS Neutral salt spray test. Currently the requirement is 500 hours for base metal corrosion, but we always test up to 750 hours.  

Component testing

To achieve a leak-free system, it's essential that all hoses and pipeline components are of high quality. HDTC has specialized equipment to test hardness, surface finish, and tightening torque of pipeline components.

For hose flexibility testing, HDTC has developed its own rig enabling classification of hoses based on bending stiffness.
